Peter Brown maintains an active practice in the fields of information technology, cyber security, technology-related transactions, intellectual property and civil litigation. He has broad experience in alternative dispute resolution as an arbitrator, mediator and advocate. Mr. Brown is the principal of Peter Brown & Associates PLLC, a New York boutique law firm. Previously, he was a founding partner of Brown Raysman Millstein Felder & Steiner LLC where he practiced for over 25 years.

Information Technology Transactions
Throughout his career Mr. Brown has also been lead counsel in transactions involving information technology systems, electronic commerce, cloud computing, data analytics, intellectual property, content distribution, mobile phone apps, outsourcing, patent licensing, and hardware purchases. His deep understanding of legal issues regarding information technology and the Internet has established him as a leading counselor in the structuring and implementation of a wide variety of technology and Internet systems.

Litigation practice
Technology and the protection of intellectual property has been a focus of Mr. Brown’s commercial litigation practice throughout his career. He has appeared in federal and state courts across the United States as lead counsel and he has represented parties in numerous arbitrations. Some of his cases were landmark disputes which set new legal standards in technology-related litigation. On behalf of foreign companies he has provided counsel on risk analysis, litigation strategy, settlement alternatives and, where necessary, defended against claims made by U.S. business partners.

Mr. Brown’s litigated disputes have covered a broad spectrum of matters including: information technology, intellectual property, data breaches, copyright infringement, computer software, breach of technology services agreements, theft of data and trade secret disputes.

Arbitration and Mediation
Peter Brown has used alternate dispute resolution procedures as an important part of his legal practice. For over a decade he has served as an arbitrator and mediator. Mr. Brown currently serves on the Panel of Neutrals of the American Arbitration Association and has also participated in matters before the International Centre for Dispute Resolution. In that capacity he has served as a Panel Chair, Panel Member or sole arbitrator on over fifty matters in the past five years. He has been appointed to decide disputes relating to international patent licenses, data breaches, patent indemnities, distribution agreements, software development agreements, manufacturing defect claims, software ownership, franchise agreements, breach of contract claims and trade secret claims. Mr. Brown has served as private mediator on a variety of Information Technology disputes.
